SAVE THE VILLAGE

SaveHuntingtonVillage is not a Civic Organization, it is a Civic Movement open to anyone who believes in the cause. We stand united against the over-development of the Town of Huntington.

Routine abuses of Huntington’s current zoning laws allow UNLIMITED apartments to be built above commercial properties in the township. We are working hard to change this.

We are moving to stop development proposals which will cause damage to the environment and diminish quality of life for Huntington’s residents

The current practices of the town have resulted in a perfect storm of heavy traffic, insufficient parking, and degradation of Huntington’s ground water, our harbors, and the greater Long Island Sound.

As a group we have accomplished the following:

  • Through a petition circulated in 2018 (SEE BELOW) We have collected over 1600 physical signatures from residents demanding a change to the current C6 “Mixed-Use” zoning law in Huntingon’s town code to limit the number of apartments allowed over commercial properties

  • We have hosted numerous environmental professionals at Huntington Town Board meetings who have explained in detail to the Town Board why the current development practices of the township are unsustainable.

  • We have intensively researched the fragility of areas of Huntington such as Mill Dam and made the case at several Town Board and Zoning Board meetings that there can be NO further development allowed in such environmentally sensitive areas.

"The 2006-amended C6 Zoning Law # 15-2006 that allowed unlimited residential space above commercial ground floor use should be amended to slow construction until policies are in place to ensure it happens responsibly…Huntington Township is intensively developed. The sewer treatment plant is approaching capacity and as it stands now your harbor is one of the most polluted in Long Island "
